WE’RE ADVISORS, NOT AGENTS
What’s the difference?
An agent works to achieve a financial benefit for a promising player based on their ability to play hockey—and gets paid a commission based on any eventual professional earnings.
An advisor helps guide players and their families, so they can get the most benefit possible from their amateur hockey career over time.
An agent works to get a signing bonus as early as possible and may not be looking out for a player’s long-term interests.
An advisor is paid while working with a player. They help a player, sometimes for as long as ten years, while the player explores the amateur ranks, develops as an athlete, earns an education, and hopefully positions him or herself for a professional hockey career.
Once you use the services of an agent, you’re considered a professional athlete. Your opportunity to play at the college or university level may be over, and it can end your hockey career before it’s really begun.
Once you contract with us, we work tirelessly in your best interests until you achieve your hockey goals. At HFA, we’re your partner for the long term.
WHAT WE BELIEVE
We believe in life after hockey.
We’re not just building young hockey players—we’re building young professionals.
TO GET BETTER, A PLAYER HAS TO PLAY.
Players need ice time to develop. We help you find the right team and the right level, so the player gets what he or she needs to develop their game.
IT’S A MARATHON, NOT A SPRINT.
You need evidence-based advice to cut through the baloney. We find the right path for the player, and customize it to creatively solve problems and seize opportunities. We understand the whole talent pool, so we can help position the player appropriately and help recognise the difference between interest and a sure thing.
WE WORK TO DEVELOP THE WHOLE PERSON.
Our focus is not about getting players to the NHL at any cost. Our focus is growth, education, and making the most of a young player’s hockey experience. Our ultimate goal is more than athletic achievement—it’s a bright future for every player, through academic, personal, and social development.
